Stories and Greetings

51 thoughts on “Welcome

  1. I was just strolling down memory lane wondering how many of the people I worked with at Sears International in Skokie I could still find. Chuck Kveton was the first to come to mind because to this day, almost 50 years later, I still remember his impish grin… In fact he always reminded me of Jonathan Winters. He always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye and a kind word for everyone. I am deeply saddened by his passing. The world lost a great man.

  2. While I just learned about Chuck’s passing, my condolences to the Kveton Family. I was blessed to work for Chuck in Public Affairs at Homart. What an incredible man to helped me in so many ways. Chuck was genuine and real. He taught me so many life lessons as well as helping me to make decisions regarding my career and education at DePaul University. Chuck…you are truly missed.

  3. Damn. I’m obviously quite late in hearing about Chuck’s passing.
We worked together for many years at Homart and I considered him a friend as well as a close business compatriot.
    Late condolences to his family.

  4. My sincere condolences to the entire Kveton family on the passing of Chuck.

I had the incredible opportunity while in college to work at Homart with the Public Affairs team. It was an amazing group of people lead by a warm, smiling, and kind man. I always felt that he treated me as a real part of his team. Chuck looked out for me and gave me great advice, powerful encouragement, and opportunities to learn things no classroom could ever teach.

I knew that he was proud of me and I could feel that in every strong handshake or hug! Then as my Dad was in his final days of fighting cancer, Chuck stepped in and gave me the encouragement I needed to keep moving forward. He taught me that strength could be found compassion, patience, and kindness. He showed me by example that leadership is so much more than a title or office.

I hope he knows how much he meant to me and that I cherished all of the time I spent with him. I hope he knows that his love and guidance made a major difference in my life. And I hope he is proud of where I am now.

Chuck….thanks for telling me I could be part of that ‘elite 40’ club…I carry that with me every day. Thank you for the Monroe Club, the office lessons, for sharing your experiences, for the life opportunities learned, the chance to work with amazing people, and for the love you showed us all each and every day. May God Bless you and your family.

  5. A full head of hair and the same wonderful smile and glint in his eyes. What a great guy.

  6. Just got the word about the world’s loss with Chuck’s passing.

A fine gentleman and great human being that loved all and all loved him.

He is smiling down on us and adding sunshine to everyone’s day as he always did while on earth.

  7. Chuck and his family were our neighbors in Kansas City for several years,,one Christmas,,Chuck appeared at our house as SANTA with a huge smile/belly laugh.Chuck was my introduction into the shopping center world via Homart,,,thank you Chuck for guiding me into an exciting life ,which I truly enjoyed.

  8. We will always remember the crafty smile on Chuck’s face as he tried to grab our snacks when playing bridge with him. He thought it was so amusing whenever he mentioned his tattoo to us. We will miss his great sense of humor, his sweet smile and his wonderful hugs. God be with you.

  9. When I joined Homart (my first real corporate job) I was very impressed with the kindness Chuck demonstrated to me and sincerity with which he welcomed me to Homart. I was impressed because up until that point I was generally in the non-profit sector of the world and joining the ‘for profit’ business world, I wondered just how competitive and potentially challenging it would be. His style, warmth and kindness stayed with me as I spent 10 years with great people that made a company great.

  10. I have only played bridge once since moving to Galena and I was so fortunate to have Chuck as my partner. And it was also special to attend plays and concerts that Chuck and Sylvia arranged for or in attendance at the same venues. Chuck will be dearly missed and I pray that he and God will watch over Sylvia. She too is a special person! Most sincerely, Jane

  11. Chuck was such a great guy…filled with so much love and laughter. I will truly miss his “Hi kiddo.”

Sylvia, I’m thinking of you and am truly sorry for your loss.

  12. Heaven just got the pick of the litter. Chuck was my friend. On more than one occasion his sage advice helped me during my Homart days. For the record, Chuck was a lot of fun to work with and to be around. We enjoyed many a laugh together. “goodnight, sweet prince/and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest” less

  13. Chuck we will miss that great big smile of yours and terrific sense of humor. I will never forget when you called me and begged me to come over because Sylvia locked you in the basement. I had to sit down, you had me laughing so much. Miss you And. “Go Bears”.

  14. What a great guy! He always made you feel like he had your best interest at heart and if things got difficult he was the voice of reason and calm.

  15. I will miss you…”Chuckles”. You were a friend, a role model on aging and just a delightful, engaging man to be around.. YOU, Sylvia, Sharon & Bob S and I had some really fun times together… You worked so hard to finally get your Angel Wings..You will be such an asset to those you join in Heaven. God Bless.

  16. Chuck and Sylvia have been our neighbors for eight years and in all that time Chuck was a wonderful, generous and kind friend and neighbor as is Sylvia. He bore his difficulties with charm and courage. We visited with him in the hospital a few days before he died. He demonstrated what is truly important in life. He was a good man.

  17. Chuck will be missed! He was an extremely kind and caring person who enjoyed telling stories with wit and humor about his many experiences. He was always a joy to be around and had a great outlook on life. You could always tell how much Chuck cared for Sylvia.

We will never forget you, Chicago Bear! Condolences to Sylvia and family.

  18. What a loss to our community! We have only known Chuck for several years but were always amazed at seeing this wonderful man walk up to the Owners Club for Bridge on his walker. At first I felt bad for him but soon realized the error of my emotions. He was one of the most wonderful and happy men alive! He will be missed terribly and one of the many legacies that he leaves for us is his happy and cheerful spirit. A piece of him will live on in all souls that knew him. Sylvia – you are a lucky girl and he was darn lucky too. I know you will miss him but he will live in your soul forever. We have our arms around you!

  19. Ginger and I will always remember Chuck for his marvelous wit and great attitude towards his friends and life, in general. You guys were a cute couple, very much in love.

  20. Ginger and I have always loved Chuck for his marvelous wit and bright attitude about life. Sylvia, your loving relationship was obvious to all who witnessed you two together. What a cute couple!!

  21. Chuck was one of the first executives I met who was approachable, a great listener and a great man. My condolences to the entire Kveton family. May you find comfort in your memories and knowing how much he touched those around him.
    Cindy Wozny-Carl

  22. Chuck was my very first mentor in this industry when I joined Homart back in the day. He was so smart, kind, sharing and loads of fun. We spent much time together playing practical jokes on other office mates. I’ve thought of Chuck so many times over the years and will be forever in his debt.
Love & prayers to the Kveton family,
    Carol

  23. We smile as we remember Chuck “dancing” at the Mistletoe Ball at Turner Hall with Sylvia. He never gave in to his maladies. He was one of the friendliest and most forgiving individuals. If only we could all model ourselves after him.
    R.I.P., Chuck.
Our deepest sympathy to Sylvia and the family.

  24. Chuck with the smile; always a joke and a pleasant comment. Hugs to Sylvia and the family for your loss.

  25. I met Chuck when he would come into Gassers hardware where I work.I would help him get water for his dog he always had with him. I would always order extra Australian black licorice just for him. One time I couldn’t get any in so I went to another store where I knew they had some just to get him a bag he loved ! Chuck, I personally will miss helping you out at the store!

  26. My sincere condolences to you all on the loss of this most wonderful kind hearted, gentle man. Chuck was so influential in my early Homart years I’ll never forget him and will always be thankful to him for his warm welcome and beautiful smile when I was probably quaking in my boots.
My father , Warren Skoning , first president of Homart was also so very fond of Chuck and spoke of him highly often. I believe they remained friends for years until my fathers passing at an early age.
May you find peace in these beautiful memories of Chuck and what a remarkable influence he had on us all.

  27. My Sympathy to the Kveton Family:
Although it’s been a long time since Homart/General Growth days
Chuck was a wonderful man. I was very young and excited to work, Chuck would make jokes and keep me smiling cause he knew I was nervous in the beginning, we would count down the days of the week until the weekend and, he would always check on me
with “Hey kid, how’s it going?” even thou I didn’t work for him, he made effort to know people in his surroundings, truly a caring person, we don’t have enough people in the world who are like the ones we keep loosing. May he rest on peace!
    Jeannie Grbavac

  28. To have known Chuck is to have experienced the best bear-hugs in the world, followed by that twinkle in his eye when he used his favorite phrase “you betcha”. He was one-of-a-kind and possibly one of the most incredible men I have ever known. I am so grateful that we found a way to stay in touch over the last 34 years and I send so much love and sympathy to all of you.

Chuck – you will be forever missed. You betcha you will!

    Melinda Batchelor

  29. Jim and I send our thoughts and prayers out to the Kveton family.

I had the distinct honor of working for Chuck in the Public Affairs Dept. for Homart Development. He was a phenomenal boss – he was professional, honest and always faced the day with humor and grace. Those of us who knew him often saw an inner sparkle – his laughter was infectious and his smile always shined through even when he faced adversity in his own life.

He was a wonderful man who will be remembered fondly by all who had the luck to know him. Bear Down, Chuck – you will be missed.

    Jayne & Jim Majzan

  30. Chuck was one of the first persons I met when I arrived at Homart. He was very friendly and welcoming to me on my first day. Everyday was a good day for Chuck. Even when given bad news he seemed to always have a smile on his face. A great leader, mentor and all around great person. Greg, he was a great father and grand father and I know you will miss him every day. Colleen and I send our prayers to you and the entire Kveton family.

  31. I have so many fond memories of Chuck and the time that we spent working together at Homart. Chuck always had an appropriate story to illustrate the pint that he was making–and he had a lot of stories. No sweet roll was safe if it found itself in Chuck’s vicinity. And that was fine with everyone because everyone liked him so much. Just a real gentleman and true professional.

  32. I was so sorry to hear of Chuck’s passing, he will be deeply missed. Chuck was such a gentleman- whenever I saw him, he would comment about how nice I looked, or how beautiful my smile was. I finally figured it out- Chuck was after my husband’s homemade raspberry jelly- and I happily gave it to him when ever he wanted. I didn’t want those compliments to go unrewarded! We have great memories of spending time together at the tennis center or traveling to tennis meets. Chuck was always our biggest supporter. God Bless him.

  33. My deepest sympathy to the Kveton family.

Next to my father (who just recently passed away), Chuck was one of the most important, influential men in my life. Chuck saw something in me as a very young person that he was willing to nurture and grow; in the truest sense of the word, he was a mentor. He was a strong leader and gentle man. Chuck taught me so much about business and life; about how to treat people; and about having integrity in all that you do. Always smiling and happy, he seemed lit from within; his laugh was contagious. When you got a hug from Chuck, you felt it all day and the fragrance of his Old Spice lingered so delightfully. I owe so much to Chuck and am forever grateful for all the gifts he has shared. My heart is heavy, but I’m comforted knowing that Chuck is now one of my angels. I love you boss 🙂

  34. Had the pleasure of being part of the Homart family with Chuck. He was the ultimate professional and a real gentleman who helped everyone be a success. Condolences to his family and friends who will miss him dearly.

  35. Chuck set an example for how I would like to age. With humor, light-heartedness, and dignity. He always had a kind word to say about how we played in a tennis match. Although he usually complained about how he had to watch out for Sylvia’s “abuse” (with a smile), you could see how much they cared for one another. I’m so sorry I won’t be able to hear another of his stories. He brought happiness with him everywhere. My thoughts are with Sylvia and his family. What a great man you had! Thank you for sharing him with us.

  36. Sylvia and family, we are only given so many days in these lives of ours. If we are fortunate we are able to have friends like Chuck during this journey. Our lives are blessed from each time we shared a story, had a laugh, a heart felt hug. His memory will linger in our hearts as we celebrate his life, well lived. God rest his soul. With love, Kent and Stefan

  37. Chuck was a great friend. Always warm and friendly. A joy to work with. Always on top of his job. Loved by all those with whom he worked. Brilliant. He will be missed tremendously. My love goes out to Sylvia, Lisa and Greg.

  38. We certainly will miss his wit and smile . A wonderful picture,it’s almost like he’s about to make a funny remark. Rest in peace, Chuck.

  39. I could never make a Green Bay Packers fan of Chuck, but we had a good time trying. He was a lot of fun.

  40. Sylvia, Lisa, Greg, and family,
We will certainly miss Chucks smiling face and genuinely warm heart and spirit. He was a special man and loved by many. I will think of him on football saturdays, and will miss talking with him about the always stressful Notre Dame football games!
    Love,
    Art and Penny Gilloon

  41. Chuck was such a joy to have around. He lightened the spirit of our whole bridge group. I’ll always remember hearing about his peaceful end, with his loved ones around him.

  42. We visited Chuck in the hospital the Sunday before he passed away.
I said, “Chuck, we love you!” and he said, “love you too, girl!” and
thinking I had not heard him, he repeated it a bit louder.

Everyone loved Chuck! His presence was a joy to all!

Sylvia was so blessed to have Chuck for so many years and he was
    blessed to have her!

  43. Chuck I will miss you, a real friend and we have so few.Wherever you are at I know you will enjoy remembering how many times we beat Sylvia and Sharon at the games we played. The girls say that they beat us but we know better , dont we Chuck!!!

  44. I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck only one time, but what a lasting impression he made. He joked and had us all laughing! Remembering Chuck makes me smile, but also sad and my sympathy to you, Sylvia, as well as all his many friends.

  45. I will always think of Chuck and our “grocery store” encounters. With that twinkle in his eye, he would create scenes that should have been on Saturday Night Live!!! Sylvia, you know how much I enjoyed my “BOYFRIEND”and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to know Chuck! You have our sympathy. Roger and Carol (Pixie)

  46. I only met Chuck a couple of times at bridge but loved his wonderful sense of humor. I smile when I remember him.
